The Atlantic Immigration Program (AIP)

The Atlantic Immigration Program (AIP) is a Canadian immigration initiative that aims to attract and retain skilled workers to the Atlantic provinces of Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, and Newfoundland and Labrador. The program was launched in 2017 to address the demographic and economic challenges faced by the region.

The AIP is designed to provide a faster and more streamlined pathway to permanent residency for skilled workers and international graduates who wish to live and work in the Atlantic provinces. The program is employer-driven, meaning that eligible candidates must have a job offer from a designated employer in the Atlantic region.

To be eligible for the program, candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • Have a valid job offer from a designated employer in one of the Atlantic provinces
  • Have a minimum of one year of full-time work experience in the past three years
  • Have a language proficiency level of Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) 4 or higher in English or French
  • Have a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Be able to demonstrate sufficient funds to support themselves and their family members upon arrival in Canada

The AIP has three streams through which applicants can apply for permanent residency:

  • Atlantic High-Skilled Program: This stream is for individuals with a job offer for a high-skilled position, such as management, professional, or technical jobs, in a National Occupational Classification (NOC) level 0, A, or B.
  • Atlantic Intermediate-Skilled Program: This stream is for individuals with a job offer for an intermediate-skilled position, such as administrative support or skilled trades, in a NOC level C.
  • Atlantic International Graduate Program: This stream is for international students who have graduated from a post-secondary institution in one of the Atlantic provinces within the last two years and have a job offer for a high-skilled or intermediate-skilled position in a NOC level 0, A, B, or C.

The AIP has been successful in attracting and retaining skilled workers to the Atlantic region, with over 8,000 candidates approved for permanent residency through the program as of 2021. The program has also been credited with helping to boost the region's population, increase economic growth, and address labor shortages in key industries.

In summary, the Atlantic Immigration Program is a great opportunity for skilled workers and international graduates who wish to live and work in Canada's Atlantic provinces. The program offers a faster and more streamlined pathway to permanent residency for eligible candidates with a valid job offer from a designated employer in the region.
